A Raincatcher collects rainwater from the tin roofs on Haitian houses. It directs the water through tubing and a filter, and then stores it in a fifty-five gallon barrel. It functions similar to a traditional gutter, but is designed to compensate for the “irregular” construction methods in Haiti. Raincatchers are delivered and installed by compassionate high school and college students. They volunteer for the opportunity to work in Haiti’s mountains. Where water is scarce, and rainwater is valuable. In a steady rain, a Raincatcher collects over a liter of water per minute. |
